Midnight Special

I know the ending divided audiences, and ruined the whole film for some people, but Midnight Special lives in a purely cinematic space, like some sort of Hitchcock-ian science fiction movie, so any arguments about plausibility can (purely in my opinion of course) go fuck themselves. There are so many things to love about the film, great performances, great script, great cinematography, a superb return for its tiny special effects budget, the wonderful realisation of the eerie.  But perhaps Midnight Special’s biggest strength is the way it allows its plot, its characters, and its world, to slowly develop as the background to what is probably the finest chase film of the decade.
