Under the Shadow

Horror is probably the genre of film I am least drawn to. I can do scary, and I can do creepy, but I can’t cope with cruelty or suffering. Under the Shadow though, set in Tehran during The War of the Cities, ticks all my horror boxes. It is smart and thoughtful, open to various interpretations, the acting (especially from Narges Rashidi in the lead) is superb, and the film is so perfectly structured that the scares, when they come, are genuinely electrifying.
