The Best Music Recommender in the World – The Super Sunday Cup Final Part of the Final!!!!!!!!

This is it. The big one. The last day. The final part of the final. The last task was to recommend an album from the 2010s. This is how it went.

  • Picky Bastards recommended Once I Was An Eagle by Laura Marling

Well. after an absolute shitshow of a performance in the final, Picky Bastards had to come good at some point, didn’t they? Quality album. Maximum points. Bang.

  • James Park recommended Black Up by Shabazz Palaces

There is nothing wrong with this album. Nothing at all. It is a good album. I like it. I like this album.

  • Sleepy recommended Lemonade by Beyoncé

    Right… deep breath…

Hot take: the best post-Destiny’s Child song is Stole.

There. I said it. Lemonade is fine but I’m probably at least a decade too old to fully ‘get’ it. It’s me, not Beyoncé, but that doesn’t help Sleepy any. Sorry.

  • John Power Jr recommended Citizen of Glass by Agnes Obel

Ooooh, yes. Lovely album this. Proper nice.

  • Donna Morris recommended HitnRun Phase Two by Prince

Maybe I am dead inside, but I’m not buying that this was a last minute return to form. And while I appreciate your not making me listen to Westlife more than you will ever know, I can’t let that sway me into giving this record any more points than it deserves. Sorry and that.

  • Graham Cox recommended Grey Area by Little Simz

This is more like it. Finishing the twenty four album journey on a high. Oh, God, did I just use the word journey in a metaphorical sense? Ugh. Sorry everyone. It’s been a long week.

Shall we get on with the scores then? Ok…

  1. Picky Bastards – 6 points
  2. Graham Cox – 5 points
  3. John Power Jr – 4 points
  4. James Park – 3 points
  5. Sleepy – 2 points
  6. Donna Morris – 1 point

Which means…

Drumroll…

The final scores are…

As follows…

  1. John Power Jr – 17 points
  2. Donna Morris – 15 points
  3. Graham Cox – 14 points
  4. = James Park – 13 points
    = Sleepy – 13 points
  5. Picky Bastards – 12 points

Congratulations to you all for a well fought final and especially to John Power Jr who claims victory in the first ever The Best Music Recommender in the World Cup! I was hoping to have sourced some sort of crappy little cup for you but due to coronavirus restrictions the trophy shop in the village has been shut for weeks. I’ll get back to you, yeah?
