1976, a food, lies

I was born half way through 1976 so pretty much the only thing I ate was breast milk. I’m sure there are fascinating studies written by scientists about breast milk but your average person, your man-on-the-street, your non-scientist should have one opinion only on the subject: I ate it before my brain was capable of creating memories and I haven’t thought about it as a food since. When you become a parent it enters your life again, but not as something you consume. It is something you provide. The normal adult human reaction to breast milk is, dude, I’m not eating that, it came out of a boob. And rightly so.

And sure, drinking cow’s milk is even weirder, when you think about it, but I don’t really want to talk about that either. Let’s move on.

Absentmindedly, I typed the phrase ‘1976 food’ into a search engine, hoping for divine inspiration. Instead, I found something that shocked me to my core. Google’s AI overview, based on billions of pounds worth of computing and science, and therefore obviously a fact, stated, the now indisputable truth, that in 1976 “Shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, and port wine cheese balls appeared at nearly every gathering.”

I like a deviled egg as much as anybody but, nearly every gathering? That seems excessive. I would consider a situation where you go to the gents for a piss, and two of your friends are already in there, a gathering of a sort, but presumably Gemini has considered this and factored it into its statistics. And so, I can only assume that any non-toilets gathering in 1976 featured deviled eggs and shrimp cocktails and port wine cheese balls (whatever the fuck they are).

If you Google “Who made devilled eggs illegal world wide was it the communists for example?” then suddenly Gemini gets defensive, claiming that, “Deviled eggs are not illegal anywhere in the world, and no government – including communist regimes – has ever banned them worldwide.”

So where did they all go, eh?

OK. Maybe I’m over thinking things. Calm down. Start again.
